In just a year, ISIS or Daesh group rose from being an unknown terror group to challenging world security, in particular women’s rights. While much is said about western women’s freedom at risk at hands of Islamists, there is little focus on those women living under the ISIS rule in Iraq, Syria and elsewhere, because also by large they aren’t easily available to describe their lives. Unlike the Taliban who want us women to be gagged, downed with hijabs and kept out of sight, women feature very differently and largely in the ISIS propaganda heavily bordering on sexual violence and degradation of all sorts.
The cherry of the cake is that ISIS derived laws are taken out of context from the Quran or Hadith and ISIS conducts its heinous dirty work in the name of Allah. Astagfiruallah!

Between Sisters, SVP! 
The point is, that regardless of what may be written in scripture, many Muslims are reading Islam in a manner which discriminates against women. This is the problem. If the goal is to reform this understanding that exists in many Islamic countries, there would be no bigger supporter than me

That is truly outrageous. I have no hesitation in calling his man out or radical parts of Christianity. But this does nothing to change the issues that exist in political Islam itself.

I agree with Papatia when she says that Muslims aren’t perfect and that VAW issues happen on a global scale regardless of religious identities. Thank you for calling out this outrageous man we read of in the link and I would urge that industrious people like yourself also get informed of how Muslims are working on making a positive change in our societies, our narratives are different from the global standards but we are out there and fighting for our rights.
I agree many Muslims are reading Islam in a way that discriminates women, but that doesn’t mean Islam is at fault, in my work I focus on these contemporary issues. Also there are many other emancipated Muslim women writers, activists who can tell you how we are being the “positive change” focusing on issues you speak of. You are welcome to see our work here at wordpress as well.

Good job Papatia! The sexual jihad fatwa makes me physically want to be sick. These animalistic men misinterpreting Islam for their own perverted selfish needs need to be called out. Theres people who think about joining Islam but unfortunately are like fresh bait for ISIS members and end up joining the dark side. As Muslims it is indeed our responsibility to restore the respect and dignity back to our faith. Both of you have done a great job discussing something so sensitive 🙂
